If you’ve ever wanted to contribute a panel to manga history, now is your chance: a collaborative project called “Social Kingdom” launched in Japan on Friday that lets anyone with a Twitter or Facebook account redraw a single panel from the 26th volume of Yasuhisa Hara’s historical manga series Kingdom.

The project was started to celebrate the manga breaking 5 million issues sold as well as an upcoming television anime adaptation. Famous manga artists Hirohiki Araki, Takehiki Inoue and Hiroshi Motomiya have shown their support by drawing a panel of their own.

If successful, the creators of the project also plan to submit it to Guinness World Records for “Manga Written by the Most People.”

All 1153 pages of the manga are displayed on the project’s website, with only text visible on the panels that have yet to be completed. Fans wishing to contribute may choose a panel that has not yet been completed and reserve it for 24 hours, during which they must upload their image or else forfeit the right to enter again. Contributors are free to draw using pen and paper or graphics software and images may be black and white or colored.

Visitors may vote for their favorite panels and contributors of the top 100 panels will receive a special printed tankobon booklet of the finished manga. Furthermore, the top 5 contributors will receive a framed enlargement of their work and the artist of the highest-ranking panel will receive a special illustration signed by Yasuhisa Hara as well as a bale of rice from his home prefecture of Saga! That stuff adds up, you know.
